Just finished a new painting – Reflecting on Autumn, Acrylic, 28″ x 44″, 2013 – This is a scene located at Wall Doxey St. Park in Mississippi.
Throughout the year, camping at Wall Doxey has provided me much inspiration for many future paintings. During my first visit, I walked behind the primitive club house to find hidden in a large spring-fed lake, an inspiring cypress brake in all its glory. I couldn’t wait to get my kayak in the water and explore the beauty of the cypress trees. After I paddled into the protection of the trees, the winds calmed down, and the all inspiring reflections, the main theme of my current painting, came to life. During each season, I return for new inspiration. I’m not sure which season of the year I like best; each one has a certain unique quality. A hot, muggy, glowing summer afternoon – a crisp, foggy fall morning – a cold, silent winter day, and a quiet spring morning, abundant with new life. To me, these experiences are very peaceful and tranquil. A new season is right around the corner, and I can’t wait to paddle the waters at Wall Doxey, where inspiration abounds. -BJ
